Emma Lederer
Artistic Director, MAX&MOI
Since 2019, Emma Lederer has continued the story of MAX&MOI by offering a distinctly contemporary interpretation of the Maison's signature codes. Without ever losing sight of its heritage, she imagines a feminine, refined and distinctive wardrobe where exceptional materials meet an instinctive, effortless and resolutely modern allure.
What if everything began with a feeling?
I like a garment to tell a story through emotion before anything else. For me, a collection never begins with a sketch. It begins with a fabric, a drape, a feeling. The softness of cashmere slipped on after a day outdoors. The caress of silk against the skin. The sensuality of leather. The enveloping comfort of Furever. Every fabric tells a story before it becomes a silhouette.
This research has given rise to a collection designed to effortlessly complement women. I love the idea that clothing is a silent language, capable of revealing a certain style, a presence, and a way of being.
The most beautiful garment is the one you forget you're wearing, leaving only the woman who wears it.

What kind of world do you imagine
through your collections?
A wardrobe designed to accompany women wherever life takes them. At the heart of the city, by the sea, in the light of a summer morning, or surrounded by the silence of a snow-covered mountain. Each collection is an invitation to experience these moments with the same sense of freedom and elegance. Paris is never far away, yet winter landscapes, the intimate warmth of mountain chalets, endless horizons, and the feeling of the wind against the skin are just as much a source of inspiration.
I love contrasts. Softness and character, comfort and sensuality. Fur combined with denim. Cashmere paired with silk or leather. Reinterpreting essentials, playing with volumes and textures, and naturally revealing a silhouette’s allure. It is within these balances that style is born. Ultimately, I love the idea of a luxury that is lived with simplicity.
My greatest challenge is to create pieces that transcend generations as much as they transcend seasons. Garments borrowed from a mother, or passed down to a daughter. Because, ultimately, allure is defined neither by age nor by trends, but by the woman who wears them.

A conversation with Emma Lederer
What makes a beautiful garment, in your opinion?
E.L. A beautiful garment is one you almost forget the moment you put it on. When a piece feels completely natural, creating an effortlessly elegant silhouette, then I believe it has fulfilled its purpose. To me, fashion should inspire confidence, provide comfort and offer that rare feeling of being completely yourself.
Why do fabrics play such an important role in your work?
E.L. Everything begins with the fabric. Every material has its own character, its own light, its own way of moving. I like to listen to what it suggests before I even begin sketching a silhouette.
Where do you find your inspiration?
E.L. Everywhere. In the light of a landscape, the wind bringing a silhouette to life, the architecture of a city, the quietness of a mountain chalet or the ever-changing colours of the ocean. I also love observing women in their everyday lives. It is often these simple moments that inspire the most beautiful ideas.
How do you recognise a MAX&MOI piece?
E.L. By its sense of effortless ease. Nothing is overdone, yet everything is carefully considered: the softness of cashmere, the drape of a sleeve, the balance of a silhouette, a leather detail or the interplay of textures. A MAX&MOI piece accompanies the woman who wears it without ever overshadowing her. It leaves room for her personality to shine.
Which piece best embodies the spirit of MAX&MOI?
E.L. The one that best expresses the Maison's DNA? The GELAIA cardigan. A generous ribbed knit enhanced with contrasting leather trims.
If MAX&MOI were a fragrance, what would it be?
E.L. Our signature home fragrance, "L'ICONIC", created exclusively for the Maison with exceptional care and refinement.
